Buffering

IPTV Buffering Fix for Firestick and Android TV

Buffering is almost always one of four things, and they are worth checking in this order because each one is cheaper to test than the next. Work down the list; most reports stop at step two.

Steps last verified 22 August 2026.

Check these four in order

  1. Is anything else using the connection?

Pause every other download, game console update and cloud backup, then watch for five minutes. If the picture settles, the line was contended, not faulty. A 4K stream needs sustained throughput, not peak throughput — see how much speed HD and 4K actually need.

  2. Move to Ethernet, or move the device

Wi-Fi is the single largest cause of buffering we see. If the device has an Ethernet port, use it. If it does not, move it into the same room as the router as a test — not as a fix, as a test. If the buffering stops, the radio path is the problem and no server-side change will help.

  3. Switch the decoder

If HD channels are fine and only the HEVC or 4K ones stutter, the device is decoding in software. Change the player's decoder setting — which decoder to use and why.

  4. Clear the app cache

A player that has run for weeks accumulates a large channel and guide cache. On low-storage devices this alone causes stalls. Clear it without losing your login.

Firestick-specific settings

Two Fire OS settings materially change stream stability and both default the wrong way for streaming.

SettingWhereWhy it matters
Turn off Data MonitoringSettings → Preferences → Data MonitoringIt throttles video when it thinks you are near a cap.
Turn off Collect App Usage DataSettings → Preferences → Privacy SettingsRemoves background reporting traffic that competes with the stream.
Restart weeklySettings → My Fire TV → RestartFire OS leaks memory. A stick left on for a month behaves very differently from a fresh one.

When it is our side

If every device on your network buffers at the same moment on the same channel, and a different channel is clean, the problem is that stream, not your setup. Note the exact channel name and the time and send it to support on WhatsApp — without the channel name there is nothing to investigate. Check service status first in case it is already known.

What we will not claim. No streaming service is buffer-free, and any provider promising zero buffering is describing something that does not exist over the public internet. What we can do is tell you honestly which side a given fault is on.

Does a VPN cause buffering?

Usually yes. A VPN adds a hop, often a slower one, and some providers throttle video. If you are using one, test with it off before anything else.

Why does it only buffer in the evening?

That pattern points at contention — either in your home or at your ISP’s local exchange. Run a speed test at the moment it buffers, not afterwards.

Will a faster plan stop the buffering?

Only if your speed is genuinely the limit. Above roughly 25 Mbps sustained, extra headroom changes nothing — stability matters more than peak speed.
