No sound

A TREX TV Channel Has No Sound

Silent video is nearly always an audio-format mismatch. The stream is carrying an audio codec your device or soundbar will not decode, and the player passes it through anyway.

Steps last verified 22 August 2026.

Work through these

  1. Check whether it is one channel or all of them

All channels silent is a device volume or output problem. One channel silent while others are fine is an audio codec on that stream.

  2. Switch the audio track

Many channels carry more than one audio track. Open the player’s audio menu during playback and cycle through them. On a multi-language channel this is also how you change language.

  3. Turn off audio passthrough

If you send audio to a soundbar or receiver over HDMI or optical, passthrough sends the raw stream to a device that may not decode it. Set the player and the TV to PCM or Stereo instead of Auto/Bitstream and retest.

  4. Switch the decoder

Some players decode audio and video separately. If the video decoder is set to hardware and audio is silent, try software — decoder guide.

Codecs that commonly go silent

Audio formatTypical device that failsWhat to do
E-AC-3 (Dolby Digital Plus)Older Android boxes, some Enigma2 imagesSet output to PCM so the player downmixes
AC-3 (Dolby Digital)Phones and tablets without a Dolby licenceChoose a stereo audio track if the channel carries one
AAC multichannelSome TV built-in playersSet the TV audio output to Stereo

If a channel is silent on every device you own, including a phone on mobile data, it is the source. Send the channel name and time to support.

Sound is out of sync rather than missing.

Most players have an audio-delay slider in the playback menu. If it drifts progressively rather than sitting at a constant offset, that is a decoding problem — switch decoder.

No sound only through my soundbar.

Passthrough. Set the TV audio output to PCM. The soundbar will still work, it just receives decoded audio instead of a raw bitstream.

Can I change the commentary language?

Where a channel carries multiple audio tracks, yes — use the player’s audio track menu. Where it carries one, no.
