TREX TV Setup on Apple TV 4K

tvOS has its own App Store with several capable playlist players. Once you are signed in, the Apple TV is one of the most stable ways to watch — it has a fast decoder and, on the newer models, Ethernet.

What you need

  • Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K running tvOS 15 or newer
  • A tvOS playlist player with Xtream Codes support
  • Your TREX TV server URL, username and password

Installing on Apple TV

  1. Open the tvOS App Store

    From the home screen open App Store and search for a playlist player. Typing on the Siri Remote is painful — use the Apple TV Remote in iPhone Control Centre to type instead.

  2. Install and open the player

    Install, then launch it from the home screen.

  3. Sign in with your line

    Open the app and choose Xtream Codes (sometimes labelled Login with Xtream Codes API). Enter the server URL, username and password from your activation message exactly as written — they are case-sensitive. Give it 10–30 seconds to pull the channel list and guide.

  4. Use Ethernet if you can

    The Apple TV 4K (2nd gen and later, Wi-Fi + Ethernet model) has a wired port. A cable removes the largest cause of mid-stream stalls.

tvOS aggressively suspends background apps. If the picture freezes after the Apple TV has been idle overnight, quit the player (double-press TV/Home and swipe up) and reopen it rather than reporting a fault — the session token simply expired.

Questions about this device

Can I sideload the Android APK on Apple TV?

No. tvOS runs only App Store apps. Sideloading needs a paid developer account and a rebuild every seven days, which is not a supported route.

Does the Apple TV do 4K HEVC?

Yes, in hardware, on every Apple TV 4K. Apple TV HD tops out at 1080p.

Can I AirPlay from my iPhone instead?

You can, but a player installed on the Apple TV itself is more stable and does not tie up the phone. Use AirPlay only for one-off viewing.
